Change is in the air

I know it is only March, but I can't tell you how ready I am for spring weather. I'm ready to spring clean, change out the wardrobe and run into a new spring chapter. I find myself making new seasonal resolutions throughout the year as opposed to the main new year resolutions. I find change throughout the year keeps things fresh and new. So embrace the change.

All That Jazz

Through the years my big brother has opened my eyes to a variety of things, Star Wars, my first set of golf clubs, making the subject of history cool, as well as jazz. Bear with me as you read my next train of thought. So now here I am at Starbucks with my Earl Grey tea latte (not my #1 drink of choice but today was one of those days that called for it) and jazz is playing in the background. Earlier today I felt the "day before the work week starts" blues and it got me a little down. So I decided to come over to get a tall something or other from Starbucks and my mood has shifted significantly. I attribute the good mood swing to the sweet, relaxing, chill blend of jazz music that they have playing. As I took another sip of the tea latte, took some moments to really appreciate jazz music and what it does for the soul, or at least my soul (insert thanks to my big brother). And it does good things for the soul. :-) If only jazz music could transport (yes transport, blame the Star Wars influence) me to a city sidewalk cafe with sunny, 70 degree weather and a sweet dog sitting on the ground next to me enjoying the jazz music as well. In the meantime, Ella Fitzgerald "Can't Take That Away From Me" just came on and now I'm just lovin' the circumstances now. Got to go listen now.

Stay tuned for what my sister opened up my eyes to!

A Rare Perspective

When applying make up in my bathroom, fully equipped with the large round light bulbs (circa 1940s, Bette Davis like dressing room) I noticed an interesting view while applying my mascara. With my face inches away from the mirror, mouth open (cause that is the natural way to apply mascara, wide-eyed and mouth open) I saw my own reflection in my pupil! While it wasn't the perfect reflection, it definitely was me lookin' straight back at...well, me! Being a first time view of myself in this way, I found myself pausing the mascara application and staring at this new finding. While there were no deep thoughts or ponderings of vanity I did think about the times when I was little and would stand in front of a mirror and have a mirror behind me as well. I would see the endless, repetitive reflection and always thought those reflections went into this unknown realm that I would have loved to explore. While looking at myself in the mirror this way, I thought maybe if I look hard enough I would see right into my mind, soul, however you'd like to coin it. But of course I was just looking at myself in my eyeball. A rare perspective to say the least.

Introducing...

After saying, time after time, that I will not become a blogger, here I am posting my first blog. Why did I finally cave you wonder? Over the past couple months I found myself going throughout my days thinking of random ideas, experiencing cool moments, and even more moments that make me pause. Following that, I had always seemed to want to put those moments and ideas out into nowhere land. Thus introduces my "Afterthoughts". I can't promise you that this blog will be extremely profound, lengthy or thought-provoking. It will just be me and my afterthoughts. I hope you enjoy. :-)
